Loads of fun for Lost fans, enjoy!

Hip-Hop History

February 28, 2006

The Smithsonian Institute is putting together an exhibit on hip-hop culture. Chris over at Crap Filter thinks this could be the death knell for hip-hop.

You know you’ve made your mark when The Smithsonian comes looking for your stuff. Either that, or your contribution to pop culture and society has become so mainstream and passé that eight-grade civics teachers can’t wait to take their classes there to ogle it. Museum officials, most likely tweed-jacketed types who I can only assume will faint at the actual sound of rap music, have issued a casting call of sorts for memorabilia.

Say it ain’t so. The place will probably be filled with things like MC Hammer’s puffy pants. Sorry Hammer those outfits were pretty horrible. I hope this doesn’t effect the link exchange though?

A Sad Weekend

February 26, 2006

We lost Don Knotts and Darren McGavin this weekend.

Knotts was best known for his roles as Barney Fife and Mr. Furley.

You probably saw McGavin every Christmas as the father from the Christmas Story. He also played the grizzled investigative reporter in the original Night Stalker.

They both will be missed immensely.

I just added MC Hammer’s blog to my blogroll. Maybe he will give some link love back. One can only hope ;)

Looking for a Sign?

Then check out the random sign/symbol generator over at the Online Encyclopedia of Western Signs and Ideograms. Hours of fun for the budding symbologist.

Hide and Seek

February 24, 2006

I have always wanted a secret passageway in my house. Maybe a secret exit that I can use to make a break for it when my wife wants me to do some chores.

I envision going into the bathroom and then flushing the toilet not once, not twice, but thrice, which then makes the toilet move to reveal my escape hatch. I would slide out into the chore-less world like a free little poo.

If I had enough money I could make my escape hatch dream a reality. Check out Rants and Ramblings for the skinny on a company that actually installs these Panic Room’esque accouterments in your home. They even have a site with video demos of their products.

The only thing I don’t like is that they make all their levers so obvious. They use the old book or candle stick tricks as the way to trigger their secret contraptions. If it was in Young Frankenstein I don’t think the trigger for my secret escape hatch would stand up to much scrutiny.

Is iTunes All It’s Cracked Up to Be?

February 24, 2006

Not according to Thomas Hawk. He basically rails against Apple’s strangle hold on the technology of iTunes and iPods.

I don’t own an MP3 playa’ and have been satisfied with XM and buying CDs so far. If we all get fed up with this high falutin mp-whatevers of the world we can always go back to mix tapes.

Want to See a Monster?

February 24, 2006

Check out this video from ABC News that reportedly shows the lake monster Champ. There was definitely something in the water, you get a decent look at it when it swims up to the boat. This is why I’m a landlubber.

A Blog of Scary Stories

February 23, 2006

If something strange has ever happened to you and you want to share your story then check out Traces From Beyond. The blog is pretty cool because it allows the public to submit their true stories of the weird and paranormal for all to read.

My favorite so far is Capture the Flag. It just strikes a cord with me because most of my youngen years were spent running around in the woods and other places we probably shouldn’t have been.

UPDATE: It looks like this site is no longer around. If you know of somewhere else to share your scary stories please leave a comment below. Or heck just leave your scary stories in the comments. I’m always up for a good scare :)

Bigfoot is Blowing Up

February 22, 2006

A group in Malaysia says they have proof of the existence of Bigfoot.

The big hairy guy even made it on Boing Boing not long ago. Sounds like he is using the media hype machine to get everyone excited for his big release party. Bigfoot may be bigger than Lindsey Lohan and Paris Hilton combined.

I hope all the media attention doesn’t go to his head. I can see it now, in a year he will be on E! True Hollywood stories. The show will detail his fall from grace due to hookers, booze, and an unfortunate incident where he mauls multiple Star Wars fans after repeated requests for Chewbacca’s autograph.

Bigfoot, please stay in hiding, it is a cruel world out here.
