‘Speed Racer’ to become live action movie.

Speed Racer fans, the Wachowski brothers are preparing to slaughter one of your fondest childhood memories.

Producer Joel Silver today confirmed a report that appeared on IGN last June, linking filmmaking brothers Larry and Andy Wachowski (The Matrix) to the forthcoming live-action Speed Racer movie.

Silver told the Hollywood Reporter that the movie, which the Wachowskis are writing and directing, will be family-friendly. “They wanted to do something that could appeal to everybody,” Silver said.

He added that they are designing the look of the film as they write the script. “They are approaching these racing scenes in a way you’ve never seen before,” said Silver.

I have one question – since this is a live action flick how are they going to treat Chim-Chim? Is he going to be a realistic CGI Gollum-esque rendition of a chimp or an actual living, breathing chimp?

I vote for the live animal route in the tradition of Clyde from ‘Every Which Way But Loose’ (btw, I know Clyde is an orangutan, but you get the idea).

Vince Vaughn is rumored to be connected with the flick and we all know that Vince Vaughn + a live poop slinging chimp = funny.

    yeah, it’d have to be the Wachowski brothers to recreate Speed Racer and do it right. but seriously, another Car Racing movie?! and in PG. I don’t think I’ll bring my kids to watch it. I don’t want them growing up thinking that Car Racing is cool. I want my children to think toward Alternative Planet-Saving modes of transportation. Non pollutive vehicles, etc.. Okay, I sound like a hippy New Ager or something but seriously, Global Warming is caused by automobile pollutants and the Speed Racer movie perpetuates such a mentality.

    Whatever happened to their other movie: “The Axis” or “DreamScapesAxis ” I thought this was next ?

    I was counting on this movie to be developed after or even before “V for Vendetta” then they do a complete 180 and do “Speed Racer” of all movies.

    What a lame choice. Well, anyway, if anyone can recreate this movie and do it the right way, it’d be the Wachowski’s. Can’t wait to see what special effects they have planned for this.

    I’m certainly crossing my fingers on this one, the Wachowski’s made the Best SCI FI I’ve ever seen, and I watch alot of movies .
