Netflix for books.

August 24, 2007

This seems like a good idea until you get to the pricing scheme. The cheapest plan is $19.95 per month to have three books at once. Why the hell do I need three books at once for? Unless my whole family is in on the plan. I think I will stick with the library (btw, Spook Country is waiting for me to pick it up … excellent). {Via}

    I’ve got my name on the waiting list at my library for SPOOK COUNTRY–hey, new Gibson, that doesn’t happen often enough.
    The sci fi geeks are kind of put out with him because he didn’t keep writing the same old cyberpunk crap and seems to show some affinity for the real world…but they still can’t resist reading him. He transformed the whole genre, after all. I got a chance to chat with him at a convention once. Charming man and I’ll always be grateful because he was the one who got me hooked on Cormac McCarthy by recommending BLOOD MERIDIAN…

    I must admit I have only read Gibson’s post cyberpunk stuff (which is one novel as of now) and I really like it.
