A momentous occasion.

November 30, 2007

Last night the boy grabbed my iPod off our dresser. I figured if he was going to listen to it he should at least listen to some good tunes. I sat with him on our bed–he with the left earbud, me with the right–and I queued up some Beastie Boys for our listening pleasure.

I think this is the first time he has ever heard the Boys. We rolled though some tracks and were about to embark on an all night listening party until the wife called for bedtime.

He liked Groove Holmes the best. I just liked hearing him say Beastie Boys and sharing some of my music with him. A great couple of minutes that will hopefully be repeated soon and often.

In related Beastie listening fun I ran across the So Watch’ Cha Want (Soul Assassin Remix) while poking around and thought I would share it for your listening pleasure. Enjoy!

Grumpy old & foreboding.

Thomas Cheplick provides this most excellent nugget in his article from the DC Examiner.

However, what is becoming particularly irritating to those of us who are just starting our adult lives is the older generations’ refusal to see that they are, in more ways than one, responsible for the apocalyptic disaster about to befall us. At first, I could only nod my head when some octogenarian would tell me, “I’m glad I won’t be alive then,” but now I feel a deep rage bubble up whenever I hear those words. You’re glad you won’t see the future, old man?

You helped to make it!

Ha! Take that grumpy old doomsayers! Wait aren’t I a grumpy old man?

P.S. I found this article sitting on a table in a conference room at work. I was early for a meeting so I picked it up and read it. What a fun little bit of informational serendipity.

I see the light.

Christmas Lights

Some crazy Christmas lights at a house near my parents. This picture doesn’t do it justice since the display was spread over two yards and also included various blow-up decorations, including Santa on a Harley.

A box store for all.

This is a great article about DC’s rich and famous slumming at Costco. Glad to see they are rubbing elbows with the great unwashed (a.k.a. me) at the free Oreo Cheesecake sample line. I wonder if they eat lunch at Costco to? It’s super cheap.

Speaking of Costco, they are planning to build a Costco warehouse near my hood. I thought the Costco stores were warehouses?

These make my heart hurt.

This photo slide show of Extreme Eats from Forbes makes me a little ill. Cringe at photo after photo of deep-fried-hamburger-pizza-donuts. You know it’s bad when a fat kid doesn’t like the look of some food, especially the Turducken.

Bad monsters.

November 26, 2007

You will get a good laugh out of Wired’s review of the original Star Trek’s monsters. This one is my favorite

Gorn Captain

Who knew grandmas and monsters had the same taste in scarfs?

It’s an elephant.

We took the boy down to DC today to see some dinosaurs at the National Museum of Natural History. This big guy (or gal?) was guarding the lobby.

This is a movie for me.

Any flick that features Bigfoot, turds, nerds, mullets, Dungeon & Dragons, and chicken nuggets is right up my alley. Check out the The Sasquatch Gang’s site.

Stumpy.

I went for a walk this morning and snapped a bunch of photos on the way.

Happy turkey day!

This is a much better Thanksgiving day wish than I could come up with. Enjoy!
