I can’t believe this bridge collapsed and luckily no one was killed. Flickr also has many pics of the destruction. My heart goes out to the commuters of that area. That looks like it’s going to be a mess for a long time

We all fall down.
April 30, 2007Will my son like my movies?
April 29, 2007My wife and son rented the Muppet Movie on a recent trip to the library. I must admit I was siked that he picked (with his mom’s help) out a flick from my childhood (it came out in ‘79).
We have been watching it for the last couple of days and he seems to like it as much as any of his other DVDs. Since he’s only 22 months old we haven’t actually watched it all the way through, but he seems excited to see Kermit, Fozzie, and the rest of the Muppet crew.
This got me thinking about the movies from my youth and whether my son will like them when he’s old enough to appreciate them.
- Will he like seeing a band of midgets battle an evil wizard in Time Bandits?
- Will Jim Henson’s other puppet movie, The Dark Crystal, be cool enough to hold it’s own against the special effect monsters of today.
- Will he think enough of the original Star Wars to re-create the light saber battles when he’s playing in the backyard.
- Will he like Raiders of the Lost Ark enough to be Indiana Jones for Halloween?
- Will he want his own alien after seeing E.T. – the Extra-Terrestrial?
I suppose it doesn’t really matter and that he will have his own favorite movies that remind him of his childhood. I just think it would be cool to share a small piece of my childhood with him and hope that he will dig it. Out of all my favorites my money is on Time Bandits, everyone loves time traveling, midget burglars, right?
A great way to discover new books.
April 28, 2007Sign-up for Powell’s Review-a-Day and you will get a book review e-mailed to you every day. It’s a easy way to learn about new books. They also have a blog for the RSS heads out there.
Floating zombies.
April 27, 2007I know I assault you all with zombie stuff on this blog, but this zombie link is worth the click even for those who hate the shambling dead. You must check out the trailers (or would they be teasers since the flick hasn’t been made yet?) for Worst Case Scenario, they are so visually amazing that I have watched them a couple times (especially the CGI promo).
Dee fence.
April 27, 2007Holy crap this game is addictive! If you have any thing important to do today don’t click on that link.
The Beastie Boys mix it up.
April 26, 2007Check out this little nugget on the Beastie Boys forthcoming album.
[The] new album will be called ‘The Mix Up’ and will be released in June.
Bandmember Mike D said the follow-up to 2004’s ‘To The 5 Boroughs’ will be “radically different” to its’ predecessor. The rockier record will instead hark to the style of the band’s classic albums ‘Check Your Head’ and ‘Paul’s Boutique’.
I’m getting excited! Just in case you forgot what Check Your Head was like here is the video for So What’cha Want. Enjoy.
Remember album covers?
April 26, 2007I was listening to Slacker and a song from Sonic Youth’s 1995 album, Bad Moon Rising, came on. Slacker, like a lot of Internet radio stations, show the album art of the song they are playing. I just thought this cover was purty cool! Kinda John Carpenter’esque.

April 26, 2007Each morning the Film Experience Blog posts a screenshot from the 20th minute and 7th second of a movie along with the dialogue should there be any. Brilliant! Via L.E.T.
Hazardous devices.
April 25, 2007I was driving behind this truck this morning and had to take a picture. It was weird to see it on the back country roads I was driving on . Also, the title of this post may make a good band name.
A guide to weirdness in my state.
April 25, 2007
Weird Maryland is a travel guide to all things strange, scary, or offbeat in the old line state. It’s from the creators of Weird N.J. and is part of a series of travel guides on weird America.
To give you a flavor of what Weird MD covers here are some of my favorite topics from the book:
- Strange creatures like the Goatman and the Snallygaster.
- Hometown heroes like Johnny “The Half Boy” Eck or creature feature host Count Gore de Vol.
- Spooky tales like the story behind the Exorcist, which was based on a true story of a Maryland boy.
- Famous abandonments like the Glenn Dale Hospital.
- And some home grown museums like the Star Toys Museum that displays one man’s extensive collection of Star Wars toys.
The book is tons of fun and if you have any interest in the weird you should see if there is a Weird book on your state.
