June 30, 2007Do you want nun chuck skills?
June 29, 2007Want to learn some Kung-Fu, or how to be a ninja, or even how to whoop ass with nun chucks? All you have to do is open up an old comic book and check out the ad section. There are (or were, since these ads come from the 50’s and 80’s) tons of companies waiting to teach youth how to deliver a most excellent karate chop.

FYI, while searching the InterWeb to find out how to spell nun chuck (or nunchuck; or nunchuka; or even nunchaku) I found nunchuck.net. Why wouldn’t there be a site dedicated to selling nun chucks and nun chuck accessories.

Last week my wife was moving a chair in our bedroom so my son couldn’t use it to climb up on our dresser. While moving it she notices that things were a little too quite. She quickly starts searching the house for our son.
She finds him in front of the open refrigerator smashing eggs in a bowl with his Spider Man Frisbee. The dog is happily lapping up the mess.

It doesn’t really matter what Klosterman writes about because all the articles turn out to be interesting. For example, I’m not really a Bill Joel fan, but his article about the Piano Man totally had me hooked. Also the foot notes and back story behind each article make you feel like you are getting a peek behind the curtain.

How far could you roam?
June 24, 2007The map below shows the difference in roaming areas of children from one generation to the next:

I remember roaming far and wide as a kid (a kid being middle school mostly) especially when we were on a mission. Although I enjoyed this freedom I’m not sure I can imagine allowing my son the same range of motion. Also, this article reminds me of one from a little while ago about the disappearance of the sidewalk.

More pillow jumping.
June 23, 2007We started our Saturday morning with more pillow jumping. These photos started out a little dark, but I used Picasa to lighten and change them to black and white. I think they turned out purty cool.
